Preparing for March 2023
I don’t know about you, but I can feel the tremors in the foundation of my life.
Maybe it’s this terrible war in Ukraine; the horrors of the Earthquake in Turkiye and Syria. The train wreck in Ohio. Or the after-effect of the pandemic.
Perhaps it is because there are so many changes occurring for me personally; children moving away for work and school; I’m getting married; we just invested in some real estate abroad.
Maybe it is because I turn 56 this year; and that sounds really old. It feels a little old too, because my new career as an astrologer requires a lot of sitting and my body has been aching. I can see the march of time in my silvering hair and wrinkling neck.
I’m okay with these things; but I see them. And I acknowledge I probably have less time than I’ve had. It makes you think.
When I look in the mirror these days I often see my mother and grandmother reflected back at me.
I know, also, there is a huge shift of energy that is about to occur next month. Saturn and Pluto both changing signs.
Saturn is the planet of structure; of old age and responsibility. Of foundation and time. Pluto is the planet of death and regeneration. Of the underworld and the darker aspects of human nature.
Saturn was in Aquarius from March 2020 to now. We all know distinctly that chapter of our lives. Pluto moved into Capricorn in 2008. That also triggered some major events that we could see reflected in the collective.
Let’s start with Saturn. Saturn will go into Pisces on March 7 and remain there until early 2026. Often planets retrograde back and forth between the end of one sign and the beginning of the next, but that is not happening with this transit. The move of Saturn into Pisces will be a firm one, and it will have a distinct feel.
Watch for more confusion about who is in charge. Watch for more flooding and problems with water. Watch for obsessions, cults and cultish behaviors. Positive manifestations of this energy is to get serious about your spiritual practices. To put a structure to your belief system and find inspiration to make real and concrete change. It is also great for seeking therapy, Jungian analysis and other methods that help you to deal with deep subconscious and lineage patterns.
Pluto changing signs will be more complicated. Partially because of the slow dance it will make going back and forth between the last degrees of Capricorn and the early degrees of Aquarius.
Pluto moves into Aquarius on March 23 and will never even get beyond “0” degrees this year.
On May 1 of this year it will station and move retrograde, backing into the sign of Capricorn again on June 11. From there it will remain in Capricorn until January 20, 2024 when it moves into Aquarius yet again; retrogrades back into Capricorn on September 1, 2024; and then stations direct and moves into Aquarius on November 20, 2024.
It will remain in Aquarius from November of 2024 to 2043.
This little “taste” of Pluto in Aquarius will be from March to June; observe the effect it has on the collective and in your Aquarius house in your chart.
Positive effects will be great strides in technology and scientific advances; a push for freedom and autonomy; and a reworking of old ways and systems that are no longer relevant.
The difficulty will be that the old guard will fight to keep the old ways. There is no better example of this than Vladimir Putin and his attempt to return to the “old structure” of the Soviet Union. But there will also be technological advances that are used for ill-purposes. All of the talk lately about AI is just the beginning.
It will be important for us to maintain our humanity and to not sacrifice certain groups of people ostensibly for the “greater good.” This is some Handmaid’s Tale type of energy. And going back 248-ish years to the last time Pluto was in Aquarius it also shows us that revolutions are to be expected.
It will also be important for us to remember what true freedom is. Pluto in Aquarius will reveal to us what isn’t working in our society at large, in the same way that Pluto in Capricorn broke down the structures of our society that were not functioning.
Another thing to note is that while Pluto moves back into Capricorn it will spend a lot of time at the very final degrees. These are completion degrees; the degrees that push the matter through the finest sieve. Things that have been barely hanging on over the past year will destruct. The 29th degree of any sign is called the anoretic degree; the degree of fate. Some structures that we thought to be invincible will fall apart completely in order to be rebuilt.
Saturn shakes things; Pluto burns them down. If we can utilize our wisdom and understanding we can observe the symbolic and actual events of our lives and our culture, community and the world to gain an understanding of what each of these transits requires from us as individuals.
Remember - as Chani Nicholas titled her fabulous astrology book - you were born for this. Truly every event in your entire life leading up to this moment has prepared you for these changes.
Participate in the creation of your own life and our collective world. Read the signs, symbols and omens. And move forward with faith and not with fear.
Shanti,
Jill
