Best Scents for Each Sign of the Zodiac

According to my astrology teacher, Goswami Kriyananda in his book Wisdom and Way of Astrology there are specific scents that relate to each sign of the Zodiac. Today I’m going to break down each scent and why I think they are related to that specific sign.

Aries – Purple Lilac

Lilac is a scent that brings calming to the nervous system, perfect for an active Mars-ruled sign like Aries. It is also said to pacify inflammation in the body, a symptom of over-active Aries energy.

Taurus – Heliotrope

Heliotrope offers a soft almond and vanilla scent with an edge of earthiness that some say is more reminiscent of food than flower. Being the sensual food lover, this scent is perfect for grounding a Taurus personality in Earthy reality.

Gemini – Lillies of the Valley

This scent is cheerful and youthful, which mirrors some of the best and brightest qualities of the Gemini personality. Interestingly enough, it also has it’s dual nature, like our Gemini. Though it is beautiful and fragrant, the entire plant is quite poisonous if consumed.

Cancer – Rose

Rose has the highest vibration of any scent, and is perfect to raise the vibrations of the energy fields of the Cancer personality. Water signs are particularly susceptible to negative or heavy energies and the power of Rose can shield them and create a more harmonious environment almost instantly. It also lifts the depression and anxiety the Cancer personality often battles.

Leo – Violet

With both a woody and floral scent, Violet encourages feelings of love, which is important to Leo personalities. Ruled by the Sun, they must fall in love with themselves first in order to step fully into their power. This scent can range from sticky sweet charm to deep musky sensuality, and Leos embody both. It can also come on too strong, not unlike our Leos.

Virgo – Jasmine

This rich and intense floral scent is also noted for its ability to calm the anxious personality, helpful for our perfectionist Virgo. It is also considered to have aphrodisiacal properties, with musky notes of sensuality. A great way for the Virgo personality to unveil their complex and Earthy side.

Libra – Amber

The deep sensual and subtle nature of Amber lends a mysterious quality to the Libran personality. This sign that represents balance and partnership typically has a sophisticated edge that this scent can enhance.

Scorpio – Hyacinth

The Greek mythological story of Apollo’s love for Hyacinth and refusal to allow him to go into the underworld and instead made him into this flower feeds the symbolism of this scent for Scorpio, the sign that rules death and rebirth. An exotic, complex and haunting fragrance that opens up the longer you linger.

Sagittarius – Chypre

One of the most ancient perfumes in history, Chypre is considered more of a category of fragrance than an individual scent. This all-encompassing nature makes sense with Jupiter-ruled and worldly Sagittarius. Sophisticated and complex, these scents can include floral, mossy, woody and leathery smell.

Capricorn – Iris

This rare and expensive perfume actually comes from the root of the Iris plant, which pairs perfectly with Capricorn which rules the skeleton and skin and is ruled by Saturn which is all about “foundation.” Interestingly enough it takes about seven years from planting to harvesting to drying to obtain the perfume, and seven years is related to a Saturn cycle.

Aquarius – White Lilac

White Lilac is more subtle than the Violet Lilac that rules the sign of Aries. White Lilac is representative of youth and purity, and suits the androgynous nature of Aquarius. It is also quite rare and often is blended with other scents, appropriate for the unique yet community oriented Aquarius.

Pisces – Sandalwood

Woody, sensual and mysterious Sandalwood has long been used in religious and spiritual practices. Medically it has been used as an antiseptic, astringent, sedative and a wide variety of other uses in both western medicine and Ayurveda. It is often used for religious practices in the form of incense or paste, and its wood is often used in carvings and for religious jewelry including malas for counting prayers. All very appropriate for the spiritually oriented Pisces to help them to remain grounded in this reality and yet connected to the worlds simultaneously as symbolized by the two fish bound together yet moving in different directions.

Have you tried any of these scents? Let me know what YOU think!

Shanti,

Jill
