Taylor Swift Songs as the Astrological Houses
So you may have seen my previous blog, Taylor Swift Songs as the Signs. Here’s a link if you missed it:

As I mentioned there, I am a big fan, and I have a fun personal connection to her (only on my end) – I taught a private yoga class for her band way back when she was still an opening act. For more on that, see the previous blog.
Must admit, I haven’t heard all of her albums. But I think she is an incredible musician and a lyrical genius. Reputation is probably my favorite album; although it’s hard to say. I thought I didn’t like TTPD, but now I’m playing it on repeat. Here’s my suggestions on gaining a deeper understanding of the astrological houses through the lyrics of Taylor Swift songs – do you have any suggestions? Comment below!
First House – A Place in This World
The first house is about you; your personality, your physical body, and your vantage point on the World. It also has a lot to do with how people perceive you. I love the lyrics “I’m just a girl trying to find a place in this world” because I think for many women that is the experience of being female. It is deeply connected to the process of shifting from a girl to a woman and how society causes us a lot of pain and difficulty because it was us to be in the woman category way before we are prepared to embody that role.

Second House – It’s Time to Go
The second house is about money, time, energy and resources. But the more I work with astrology, the more I see the deep interconnectedness of these themes with a person’s self-worth and self-esteem, which is a natural shift from the first house of self to the second. The lyrics that say “sometimes, givin’ up is the strong thing, Sometimes to run is the brave thing” makes me think of the hours, days, months and years that I gave to people, employers, lovers, projects where it would have been better to walk away. Very second house

Third House – Never Grow Up
The third house is about our mind; about learning to communicate and express our thoughts, as well as interact with people on a regular basis. It involves siblings and neighbors and neighborhood, because we learn first to communicate with these people before our world widens. I connected this song to this house because it speaks to this idea that eventually we must leave that childhood place behind and take ourselves out into a larger world. I think it is also important to maintain the innocence and “wonder” of our child-like mind and enthusiasm for living.

Fourth House – Safe and Sound
“Don’t you dare look out your window, darling everything’s on fire.” Those lyrics feel more real and true now than back when they were written. The fourth house represents home and hearth; personal safety. And the feeling of being nurtured and supported. To be “Safe and Sound” is truly to be home.

Fifth House -- …. Ready For It?
“Baby, let the games begin.” The fifth house is about risk, fun and the pursuit of pleasure. It is creative, joyful and a bit on the edge of your comfortable zone. Brief love affairs or the pursuit of love as a spark of fun or without commitment is very fifth house and expressed well in the lyrics of this song.

Sixth House – I Can Do It With a Broken Heart
The sixth house is our house of work, health and our day-to-day routines. This bouncy expression of how no matter what happens we all have to get up and on with the daily grind no matter what else is happening describes the sixth house very well.

Seventh House – Our Song AND The Great War
The seventh house is committed partnerships of all kinds. It includes our lovers, spouses, business partners, and yet also our ex-‘s, frenemies and people we are competing with. Our Song is a lovely little song that talks about young love and its sweet rhythms and routines without any of the tricky difficulties of a longer or more mature love. The Great War references a longer relationship brought to the brink of ending and battled back to retain. Anyone who has been in a long-term relationship can relate. Love it not all wine and roses; great emotional connection can go either way.

Eighth House – Karma
Karma is the law of cause and effect; whatsoever you do, say or think returns to you. The eighth house is a deep house of intimate connections with others. Our financial connections to others, our connection to God, and deep sexual relationships. It is the house of death and regeneration. Swift mingled her finances in a less than honorable partnership that eventually turned against her. This is her response, and even though I don’t like to think of karma as revenge, it helps us to understand some of the deep layers of the eighth house.

Ninth House – London Boy
The ninth house is about long-distance travel, mind expansion, philosophy and other cultures. This sweet take on falling for a guy from another country and then falling for the city from which he hails offers some insights into this area of life.

Tenth House – Midnight Rain
I tried very hard not to “repeat” from my Taylor Swift as Signs blog; otherwise, this house would be The Man. But this song which references Swift’s desire to achieve her career goals versus falling into a comfortable relationship highlights tenth house themes of soul purpose, honors, legacy and leadership. This house is the house of dharma and career as more than a day job. Clearly, Swift has merged both together. Maybe you have, too?

Eleventh House – This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things
The eleventh house has to do with our aspirations, wishes, friendships and peers. This bopping little tune discusses having to set a hard boundary with a friend. I love the line “took an axe to a mended fence.” To quote my dear friend Liz, “honey – your friends can’t give you your dreams; but they can take them away from you.” Yes.

Twelfth House -- Anti-Hero
The twelfth house is the house of the subconscious. Within here lie lineage karma, things that happen behind the scenes in hidden boardrooms and bedrooms. It’s large corporations, hospitals, jails, school systems and government systems. It relates strongly to self-defeating habits and patterns, and this song beautifully describes the inner angst we often feel when we fall into difficult and repeated patterns of self-destruction.
