First Date Suggestions for Each Zodiac Sign

Hi everyone,

I was recently asked to contribute to a piece in Bustle on first date tips based upon someone’s astrology sign; check it out — do you agree?

Aries: Ask them what they want – they will have opinions. Something outdoors usually works; preferably athletic. Go for a hike; check out a climbing gym; take a yoga class. Try a sport like archery or even bowling. Get the movement in first, and then perhaps a snack or a drink and time to talk and connect.

Taurus: Pack a picnic and take them to a beautiful park; visit an Arboretum or Conservatory, the natural world is their world. Take a cooking class together. Stay-in date night where you pick up Chinese food, champagne and watch a comedy together. Go somewhere you can do a wine tasting or bourbon flight. These are sensual people, feed their senses.

Gemini: Go somewhere that you can talk easily; choose a venue that isn’t too noisy, you will want to talk a lot! Day trip somewhere interesting or historical, typically they love history. Spoken word poetry jam; see a play or musical. Meet at a bookstore and then grab a coffee together. Get takeout and some board games and stay in; Chess anyone?

Cancer: Choose a small venue to go – a local theatre or even a small-town shopping experience. Let them pick the restaurant or bar where they are a regular and you make the reservation and meet them there with a small bouquet of flowers or a thoughtful gift. Offer to gather the ingredients for a meal and cook for them. Go antiquing and then grab some tea.

Leo: Keep in mind that Leo likes it big and beautiful. Choose the best new restaurant or bar in town; if you can, manage to get the difficult reservation. Don’t try to pack too much into the date though, Leos do like to lounge. Choose somewhere to go where you need to get dressed up a bit. Go see a professional production of a play, musical or opera. Go to a fundraiser or black-tie event.

Virgo: Pay attention to the details here, they will want to know you put some thought into this. Note any special dietary needs or wants and find the perfect restaurant where they will be pampered with their choice foods. Maybe meet at the gym and then head out for juice afterwards. Browse some upscale shops on the way to dinner. Brunch would be a great choice for Virgos, they love all the options to both be healthy and indulge at the same meal. Volunteer together at a local event or charity.

Libra: Offer to make the decisions on where to go and what to do, they struggle to make such decisions, often weighing everyone else’s opinion. Give them choices and then you decide. They prefer sophisticated and classy places, choose a place that has been open for a while with a sophisticated waitstaff and experience. Think: elegance. They love the arts – a museum visit, a musical, a poetry reading would totally hit the mark.

Scorpio: Get ready for real conversation; no false bravado here. Go to a nice quiet restaurant with attentive but respectful service so that you can talk true and get to know each other. Go see a movie and then process afterward with a beer or coffee. Go to an art exhibit or check out a new indie music venue. Ask them what they love, and go experience it with them.

Sagittarius: Get. Out. Side! Go horseback riding, skiing or play tennis. Invite them to a party or hit up a venue with a rooftop bar or pool or something that makes the scene feel like a party. Visit an amusement park or check out some live music. Book a table at a great hole-in-the-wall that serves the most authentic ethnic cuisine in town.

Capricorn: Book at a table at a hard-to-get-a-reservation place. Show up on time and be dressed neatly and a bit conservatively. Order the best of things. Choose a venue with a great view, always remember they are an Earth sign. Stay in to play games like Monopoly or Chess and order takeout. This is another sign that would be up for a volunteer situation; sign up for a run together for a cause or volunteer to pour beer together at an outdoor event.

Aquarius: Go to a book launch or a talk on technology. Start with a coffee shop meet-up or something very informal. They value their independence and uniqueness. Watch the physical affection on the first date, let them initiate or at the very least ask them. They are cautious about touch. Go see a movie or a play, something that allows you to be close but not constantly together; maybe see if afterward they want to grab a coffee or a bite to eat; no pressure. Ask them about their activism and their passion; these folks have opinions!

Pisces: Be thoughtful and respectful; these folks need to be cautious and careful because of their sensitivity. Take them to a place that is quiet, but beautiful. Let them take the lead. Anything with water is good – a restaurant overlooking a river, a coffee shop with a fountain or a quiet environment. Wherever you go as far as a restaurant, bar or coffee shop, choose a booth so they feel secure. Outdoors is good for them, so offer a walk or a hike; some activity that allows gaps of silence and thoughtfulness. Give them a chance to exit quickly and don’t take it personally; they have to monitor their environment and feel safe. Stay away from loud clubs, big events, places where they don’t feel they can control the space. They might invite you to their special place – their home or their place of retreat. Give that space, and them, all honor and respect.
